Welcome to the Incredible Edibles Website
Incredible Edibles is a healthy eating initiative for Primary School pupils. It encourages schools across the country to get busy growing carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries, turnips and herbs. Schools are supplied with grow packs containing everything they need to grow a veritable feast of healthy foods!
On this site you can download curriculum linked activity sheets, log book, a growing planner and you will also find growing videos to help you get set up. Everything that's needed to learn about where food comes from and the importance of fruit, vegetables and potatoes is also available to download.
Meet the Incredible Edible Team:
Incredible Edibles School of the Week!
School:Scoil Mhichil Naofa County: Kildare Teacher:Mrs. Langton Class Level: Senior Infants Description: Despite the school doors being shut, Ms Langton is looking after and tending to the strawberry and potato plants in her own garden - now that’s what we call dedication
TASK 4: Cooking There may be no school, but we are ploughing ahead with our Incredible Edibles project! Task 3 Planting/Growing, and Task 4: Preparing/cooking, can luckily be done from home!
No School? No Problem! Gardening is great for well being and a distraction from the noise of the current news around us. Task 3: Planting, should have been complete by this Friday, so whether you’re now looking after them alone, or your students are helping – please do not let your plants go to waste or die! They are very easily looked after in their pots. Have any of yours started to sprout yet?
Now it is time to start tackling Task 4! For Task 4, Preparing/Cooking food - students should take pictures of themselves preparing, cooking or eating Irish potatoes, fruits, vegetables and herbs at home. This can be done from home and might be a nice activity to with parents during this time!
Encourage them to write down the recipe after they prepare a dish! This is another great way for parents and guardians to become active members of their children's education and maybe even discover a new, delicious recipe! You could prepare a soup, make a smoothie, make a fruit salad or fruit kebabs, or even make something using a slow cooker.
Task 4 Completion Goal: Friday 30th April Here are some ideas and tips when completing Task 4:
Make something simple (smoothie, soup, stew, salad, etc)
Try something new! What can you muster up from your kitchen cupboards? Have a helper take pictures of the students preparing a dish.
Encourage your students to take at least 2-4 photos of them cooking at home.
Have your students write down the recipe to their meal that they prepared in the pictures and attach it to the pictures.
These are just some ideas to help you out! While you are working on Task 4, don’t forget to check on your garden! Take some more pictures on your garden’s new growth!
There is also plenty of curriculum-based worksheets and activities available in the "Activities and Lessons" section above, such as “Draw your favourite recipe”, healthy recipe suggestions and some fruit and vegetable quizzes that can be done at home!
As always, we are here for you if you need any help. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions, comments or concerns!
Happy Cooking, The Agri Aware Team.
